Welcome to our journey of reviving a beloved classic – the two-door Morris Minor Saloon in a charming shade of green. Today, we’ll dive deep into the intricacies of this restoration project, from the initial purchase to the extensive plans for its future conversion.

Introduction to the Morris Minor Saloon

In this post, we’re introducing a wonderful two-door Morris Minor Saloon that has captured our hearts. Sourced and secured for a discerning customer, this classic vehicle holds immense potential. Although we have exciting conversion plans, this car will remain in its original petrol configuration for the summer, adding a touch of nostalgia until its electric future arrives.

A Solid Foundation

Upon selecting this Morris Minor, we focused on its robust construction. The car boasts a solid foundation, showing few signs of previous tampering or excessive welding. While it needs some paintwork and interior upgrades, we’re ready to onboard these challenges with our comprehensive plan.

Planned Upgrades

Our client has chosen to upgrade the interior with luxurious seats from Newton Commercial, and soon we’ll revamp the carpets and door cards. We aim to address minor undercarriage patches, refreshing the bodywork entirely. This summer, the vehicle is prepped for safe use, and we’ll be ready for the customer’s anticipated collection.

Initial Fixes and Test Drives

Addressing a leaky gearbox was one of our first tasks. We’ve improved this by replacing the gearbox oil seals to ensure everything runs smoothly. During our test drive, the unique character of this vehicle shone through. Driving a petrol version is a different experience compared to its electric counterparts. The unrefined pleasures of vintage driving—despite its challenging quirks—are unparalleled.

Exterior Conditions and Plans

Upon close inspection, the bodywork presents some rust, marks on the paint, and tired rubber seals. We’ll replace these imperfections, fitting new wings where necessary. Notably, bird droppings need careful cleanup on the roof. Meanwhile, we’ll preserve the quirky features that give this car its charm.

Behind the Scenes

Peeking into the boot and engine bay reveals areas that demand attention. The boot, albeit solid, needs a few adjustments, including seal corrections and crack repairs. Inside the muddled engine bay, we see untapped potential. We plan to repaint and refurbish this area during the electric conversion process

The Future: Conversion and Restoration

Our electric conversion journey brings new challenges and promises. By focusing on quality, our modifications aim to retain the vehicle’s character while enhancing its efficiency and driveability. Our experience with over 10 successful conversions guides us, ensuring we address every unique challenge that arises in each project.

Conclusion

With enthusiasm and diligent work, we look forward to the transformation of this Morris Minor Saloon. From traditional quirks to modern efficiencies, its evolution into an electric vehicle will surely captivate the owner and admirers alike. We’ll continue to share this journey, encouraging you to join us in celebrating the wonders of classic car restoration and conversion.
