So what’s been through our Electric Vehicle workshop lately?

We start with a contradiction – a petrol Morris Minor. We don’t usually work on none electric cars but after converting 4 minors to electric we have built up a vast knowledge of them. We got asked to firt a reconditioned gearbox to this traveller and to check it over. We fond a few areas that needed immediate attention and sorted them. You never know one day it may be electric!

The next big job was a 40 kilowatt hour leaf that came to us as a none runner. We investigated and found that it had evidence of burning in the power delivery module and inverter. We removed the motor stack and replaced it with another. We then found that the overheating of the motor had also damaged one of the Vehicle Control Units so we changed that out for a brand new one which had to be programmed to the vehicle.

Having replaced the heater on this 2014 NISSAN LEAF 24 kilowatt hour a couple years ago the owner got in touch to say it was for sale and would we like it. They were selling as they had bought a new longer range EV. We agreed to purchase it and once collected checked it over and reconditioned everything that it needed. It has over 140,000 miles on it so you might think it was ready for the scrap heap. Tho the contrary it was still in good shape, all we needed to do was replace the front suspension struts and refurbish the brakes along with giving it a good service. It still has 75 percent battery state of health and is good for 60 to 70 miles of range on a full charge. Just proves that older EVs still have a lot of life in them. It found a new owner before we even had chance to properly advertise it.

We then had this wonderful Cupra Born in for a service. It took us longer to reset the service reminder on the car than do the service! With newer Volkswagen group cars you now have to register online not get a code to use to reset the service reminder. Modern technology is sometimes more complicated than it needs to be.

We then got the job of replacing a diesel tank in a Renault kangoo. Some of these vans have a diesel heater to work alongside the electric heating so as to minimise range reduction in cold weather. The plastic tank in this one was damaged then leaking so we replaced it and recomissioned the heating system.

The customer who bought the high mileage 2104 Leaf had a 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS which we took in part exchange. Upon inspection we found it needed 4 of its battery modules replacing so we have orders then and are just about to fit them.

Until next time “KEEP CHARGING AHEAD”
